How to Remove Ink Stains: 5 Home Remedies

It is important to know how to remove ink stains and actually do it as soon as you see them. This will prevent permanent damage to your car's interior. Use a dry towel to blot the stain. This will help absorb any excess ink which might seep deep into the upholstery fibers. Do not rub the stain as this might smear and eventually spread to unaffected areas.

If the stains are still visible, try these home remedies:

    Baking Soda

This ubiquitous kitchen ingredient works wonders on ink stains. Mix a little baking soda with enough water to create a paste-like substance. Get a piece of cloth, dip it into the mixture and gently apply on the affected area. Remember to blot – not rub the area. Rubbing causes ink to settle deeper.

    Vinegar

What can't vinegar do? Its acetic properties make it easier to remove ink stains effectively. Plus, it's safe to use, gentle on hands and environment-friendly. First, combine 1 tablespoon of dish washing soap and 2 teaspoons of white vinegar in a cup of water. Dab the solution on the stained area using a soft cloth. Apply gently so you do not cause the stain to spread. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then wipe it with a soft cloth dipped in cold water. Rinse the affected area thoroughly. Repeat the process if necessary.

    Hairspray

Spray it on the stain then leave it for a few minutes. This will allow the hairspray to work on the stain thus making ink removal faster and easier. Use a clean, dry towel to blot the stain so that the hairspray and ink stain can be removed. Use a white towel as this will reduce the chances of re-staining. Make sure that you rub the stain gently while you are using towels. Do not use a lot of hairspray as this might make the stain worse.

    Rubbing Alcohol

Want to know how to remove ink stains from your leather upholstery? Isopropyl alcohol is best! Get a cotton swab and dip it into the rubbing alcohol. Apply this on the ink stain. Use a clean towel to wipe the area. If you find that the area is still slightly stained, repeat the process.

All-purpose Cleaner or an Upholstery Cleaner

The affected area should be pre-treated with the cleaning product and left to rest for a few minutes. Then use a damp microfiber towel to blot off the stain.
